Applications are now being accepted for women-only hunts sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources^ Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program. The women-only hunts, sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources^ (DNR) Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program, will allow further hunting opportunities for women who are first-time hunters or experienced hunters. Applications for deer and dove hunts are due Friday, Aug. 10. Waterfowl hunt applications will be available in September. To receive hunt applications or for more information on Becoming an Outdoors-Woman workshops, contact Sharon Wright, DNR, PO Box 167, Columbia, SC 29202; by e-mail at sharonw@scdnr.state.sc.us; or call (803) 734-4072 in Columbia. The dove hunt will be Monday, Sept. 3 at Lake Wallace Wildlife Management Area near Bennettsville. Deer hunts will be Sept. 28-29 at Webb Wildlife Center in Hampton County; Oct. 8 at Fant^s Grove Wildlife Management Area in Pickens County; and Nov. 16 at Moultrie Wildlife Management Area in Berkeley County. Deer and dove hunt applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10 to be eligible for the hunt drawings. A fee deposit of $25 per hunter must accompany each dove hunt application, $50 per hunter for deer hunts. If the application is not drawn, the fee will be refunded. The DNR Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program provides workshops for women to learn outdoor skills using a hands-on approach in a non-intimidating atmosphere.
