DES MOINES – DNR officials are reminding hunters time is running out to order statewide firearm licenses by phone. Telephone applications will be accepted through 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, however DNR officials advise hunters to call now to avoid the anticipated rush of calls made on or near the deadline. "Every year the firm that manages our telephone ordering system gets flooded with calls on the last couple days leading up to the deadline," said Alan Foster, an information specialist with the DNR. "At times the lines are constantly busy and some people simply can’t get through to an operator. We recommend hunters call now and avoid that peak calling period." This is the last opportunity to order statewide licenses for first and second shotgun and late muzzleloader seasons. The number to call is 1-800-367-1188, and callers should have a completed application ready before dialing. The $25.50 license fee plus a $4.50 handling fee must be charged to a MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express charge card or a MasterCard or Visa check card. Wire transfers, which require an additional service fee, are also accepted. Wire transfers will be explained at the time of the call. Charges will appear on statements as "ProCom." No other payment option will be accepted. Operators will accept application information only and will not be available to answer questions regarding deer seasons. Statewide bow licenses are still available, as are antlerless licenses in many of the counties located in the special antlerless zone. However, Foster did say all antlerless licenses for the special late season have been sold and applications will no longer be accepted. The special late season is open only in Davis and Van Buren counties. "As expected, antlerless licenses for Davis and Van Buren counties sold quickly, which means licenses for the special late season are no longer available," Foster said. "However, there are plenty of antlerless licenses available for many of the remaining counties in the antlerless zone. Those licenses can be purchased for the second shotgun, bow and late muzzleloader seasons."
