PIERRE – State Game, Fish and Parks officials say firearms antelope license holders can get a refund if they return their firearms antelope tag by Friday, Oct. 6. Requests must be postmarked by this date to receive a refund.
Wildlife Division Director Doug Hansen said there was minor rainfall over the weekend, and even though the department expects the weather to cool down by the weekend, they still want to make refunds available to any hunter that cannot get permission to hunt antelope due to fire danger.
"Antelope hunters need to decide by this Friday if they want a refund," Hansen said. "We suggest hunters check with their landowner contact to see if they will be able to hunt."
He added that hunters getting refunds will have their preference points restored, but will not be guaranteed an antelope license for next year. Also, if refunded, a license cannot be reinstated if fire conditions change.
Hunters requesting a firearms antelope refund should send their license to Game, Fish and Parks License Office, c/o License Refund – Firearms Antelope, 412 West Missouri Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501.
