PIERRE – License refunds are available for firearms elk unit 402A until Friday, Sept. 29, according to state Game, Fish and Parks officials. Requests must be postmarked by this date to receive a refund.
Wildlife Division Director Doug Hansen said due to fire damage in the area of the 402A Black Hills elk unit, the Department of Game, Fish and Parks will refund elk licenses from that unit only, if requests are mailed by this Friday, Sept. 29. He added that hunters getting refunds will have their preference points restored, but will not be guaranteed an elk license for next year.
Hunters requesting a refund for elk 402A should send their license to Game, Fish and Parks License Office, c/o License Refund – Rifle Elk, 412 West Missouri Ave., Pierre, S.D. 57501.
Hansen noted that travel restrictions for the Black Hills are still in effect, but restrictions may be lifted in a couple weeks.
