PIERRE – South Dakota’s first spring turkey drawing has passed, but hunters still have a chance for leftover licenses if they submit an application before the required deadlines. "Anyone who does not have a 2001 spring turkey license can apply for a license in the second round if they mail their application on or before March 9," said Communications Manager Chuck Schlueter. "That date is this Friday, so applicants need to hurry." Schlueter added that anyone who misses the second drawing can still try for one of the remaining licenses in the third drawing, which has a deadline of March 23. Everyone is eligible to apply in the third drawing, whether or not they already have a license. A person can draw a total of three spring prairie turkey licenses. "After the third drawing, licenses will be first-come, first-served as long as more licenses remain than applications are received," he said. Anyone needing an application can print one from the Game, Fish and Parks application index page at www.state.sd.us/gfp/hunting/Applications/Index.htm. Leftover licenses can be viewed online at www.state.sd.us/gfp/hunting/Leftovers/Index.htm.
