Meeting times and places have been set throughout most of Idaho to comment on proposals for the 2001 deer, elk, antelope, black bear, and mountain lion hunts. The meetings will focus on proposals for the region where they are held, but comment may be offered regarding any proposal. Most meetings are in open house format. The Fish and Game Commission has asked for comment on the possible establishment of "traditional weapons" hunts. These would be restricted to muzzleloader or longbow only, with motorized equipment restricted to "system" roads. In the archery hunts only long bows and recurved bows could be used, with wood or aluminum arrows with natural fletchings and no sights. Muzzleloaders would have to be .50 caliber or larger with an external pivoting hammer, exposed flint or percussion cap ignition, using flowable black powder or flowable Pyrodex with a patched round ball. Other proposals being considered in most regions would increase the opportunity for youth hunters, either by increasing the numbers of hunts or the opportunity to take a female deer.
