LITTLE ROCK --Arkansas turkey hunters can now apply for limited permits on several wildlife management areas of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission for the 2001 spring season. Applications are available from license dealers and Game and Fish Commission offices around the state. Applications may also be submitted online at www.agfc.com. The application period is open through January 19, 2001. Applications must be postmarked on or before that date to be eligible for the computer drawings. Successful applicants will be notified by mail during February, and will be issued permits in March after sending in the required $10. A second drawing will be held for any unclaimed permits. Quota permit hunts are planned on Bois d^Arc, Camp Robinson, Cut-Off Creek, Harold E. Alexander, Holland Bottoms, Lafayette County, Rex Hancock/Black Swamp, Shirey Bay/Rainey Brake and Sulphur River wildlife management areas. Youth turkey hunts will be held before the statewide turkey season opens on Bayou Meto, Cut-Off Creek, Gulf Mountain, Harold E. Alexander, Holland Bottoms, Lafayette County, Madison County, Norfork Lake, Petit Jean, Rex Hancock, St. Francis Forest, Sulphur River, Trusten Holder, and W.E. Brewer/Scatter Creek WMAs. Permit hunt dates and other details are listed on the application forms. The 2001 Arkansas Turkey Hunting Regulations pamphlets will be available in March 2001. The season opens Saturday, March 31 in Deer Zone 17 (formerly Zone 20) and Monday, April 2 in the rest of the state except spring turkey zone 3 (parts of Crittenden, Cross, Jackson, Mississippi, St. Francis and Woodruff counties), which is closed.
