LINCOLN – The 2000 Nebraska regular firearm deer hunting season is history, but there are still plenty of opportunities for those still wanting to hunt deer. The archery deer season reopened Nov. 20 and will remain open through Dec. 31. This year^s muzzleloader season will be Dec. 2 - 31. There are an unlimited number of both archery and muzzleloader permits available to hunters. There are also permits still available in five of six "season choice" units. In those units the holder of a "season choice" permit may hunt with legal archery equipment Nov. 20 - Dec. 31, legal muzzleloaders Dec. 2 - 31, and with legal firearms, Jan. 6 - 14, 2001. Each "season choice" permit allows the bearer to take one antlerless deer, except in Area 6, where the bag limit is two antlerless deer per permit. There were also a few permits left in the Fontenelle Antlerless and Sandhills Antlerless units. Resident deer permits are only $22.25 and the Nebraska Habitat Stamp, which $10. As of Wednesday morning, Nov. 22, the units and number of permits still available were: Area 3 (Loup River), 297; Area 6 (Blue Southeast), 1271; Area 4 (Elkhorn River), 164; Area 2 (Republican), 117; and Area 5 (Lower Platte), 1170. Nebraska deer hunting information, permit information, and downloadable permit application forms may be found on the Commission^s Internet web site at www.ngpc.state.ne.us/ .
