SPRINGFIELD, ILL. -- Hunters can access several controlled pheasant hunting areas by checking in by the prescribed time at the site hunter check station. Daily drawing sites, check in times, season dates, and access fees are listed below: Johnson Sauk Trail State Park (Henry Co.) Check in time: 8:30 a.m. Season Dates: Nov. 4-Jan. 7, 2001; Closed Mondays and Tuesdays Fee: $15.00 per day per hunter Kankakee River State Park (Kankakee Co.) Check in time: 8:30 a.m. Season Dates: Nov. 4-Jan. 7, 2001; Closed Mondays and Tuesdays Open Thanksgiving Day 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Fee: $15.00 per day per hunter Richland Co. Controlled Pheasant Hunting Area (Richland Co.) Check in time: 8 a.m. Season Dates: Nov. 22-Jan. 14, 2001; Closed most Mondays and Tuesdays (Bird Hunter special hunts may be available on some Mondays and Tuesdays - check with the private operator for details - T. Miller, Inc. at 217/793-6146) Fees: $16.00 for a two-bird permit; $23.00 for a three-bird permit; and $29.50 for a four- bird permit Washington Co. Conservation Area (Washington Co.) Check in time: 8 a.m. Season Dates: Nov. 4-Jan. 14, 2001; Closed Mondays and Tuesdays Fee: $15 per day per hunter Hunting hours at all locations are 9 a.m.- 4 p.m. If necessary, a drawing is conducted immediately after check-in time to fill the hunter quota. Pheasants of either sex may be harvested. At Kankakee River State Park, hunting opportunities are available for physically challenged hunters with Standing Vehicle Permits. A special vehicle is available to assist with the hunt. Physically challenged hunters, as defined by law (520 ILCS 5/2.33), may apply to the IDNR Office of Law Enforcement for a Standing Vehicle Permit by phoning 217/782-6431. Physically challenged hunters should contact the Kankakee River State Park site office by phoning 815/933-1383 at least two days prior to the hunt to arrange for use of the special vehicle. Hunting hours are 12:30 p.m.- 4 p.m., with check in at the site office between 11 a.m.- noon. On Sunday, Nov. 26 and Saturday, Dec. 30 at Johnson Sauk Trail State Park, Kankakee River State Park and Washington County Conservation Area, hunters ages 10-15 will be able to hunt free of charge when accompanied by a paid adult hunter. To participate, young hunters must have passed a hunter safety course and have a valid hunting license.
