SALT LAKE CITY – All of the Northeastern Region general buck deer permits available to Utah residents are sold out, the Division of Wildlife Resources announced Aug. 31. Resident permits are now sold out in the Central, Northeastern, Southeastern and Southern regions. There’s still a chance for Utah residents to hunt buck deer this fall, though, as resident permits are still available for the Northern Region. The general muzzleloader hunt, which begins Sept. 27, is Utah’s next general buck deer hunt. Nonresidents still have a chance to hunt in Utah, too, as nonresident permits remain available for the Northern, Central and Northeastern regions. Nonresident permits for the Southeastern and Southern regions have sold out. There are three ways to obtain a remaining buck deer permit: * hunters who have a MasterCard or Visa credit card may log onto the Division of Wildlife Resources’ Internet web site at www.nr.state.ut.us/dwr/dwr.htm. To access the section of the site that allows you to buy a permit, click on the trout in the upper right hand corner of the home page. Hunters who don’t have access to the Internet at home can still access it using public library and university computers. * hunters may obtain their permit through the mail, by mailing-in a permit request form. Forms are available from hunting and fishing license agents statewide, Division offices and hunter education centers, and the Division’s web site at www.nr.state.ut.us/dwr/dwr.htm. * hunters may buy their permit over-the-counter, from Division offices in Ogden, Salt Lake City, Springville, Vernal, Price and Cedar City. The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, with the exception of the Salt Lake City office, which opens at 7:30 a.m. To prevent the overselling of general buck deer permits, they’re not available from license agents this year. Instead, they’re available from the Division of Wildlife Resources, which has developed a centralized computer data base that allows the Division to track the number of permits sold. For more information call the nearest Division office, or the Division’s Salt Lake City office at (801) 538-4700. Contact: Mark Hadley, DWR Media Specialist (801) 538-4737
