LANSING--The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has completed its random drawing for elk permits this year, and 375 Michigan residents have been selected to participate in the August 26-31/September 16-20 and December 5-12 hunts. The successful applicants were computer-drawn from a pool of 47,668 eligible people. Letters have been mailed to each of the 375 hunters selected for the August/September and December hunts. Of the 375 hunters, 160 have the choice of taking an antlered or antlerless elk while 215 will be allowed to take only antlerless elk. The Department^s population objective is 800 to 900 elk in the winter herd. This year^s elk hunting areas will include portions of Alpena, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Emmet, Montmorency, Otsego, and Presque Isle counties.
