SANDUSKY, OHIO -- The Ohio Division of Wildlife donated 2,800 pounds of yellow perch to two Ohio zoos recently. Wildlife officers seized the fish, which were under the legal commercial size limit, during a routine inspection of a local commercial fishing operation in August. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo and the Columbus Zoo each received 1,400 pounds of the whole frozen perch, which will be used to feed carnivores at the two zoos. Officers charged commercial fisherman Kenneth King, of Ashtabula, with possession of yellow perch under the legal size limit of 8.5 inches. He plead guilty in an Ashtabula Municipal Court hearing September 9, and was fined $125 and $55 court costs, and ordered to forfeit the fish. Yellow perch must be 8 inches long to be harvested legally by commercial fishers in Lake Erie.
