There was high catfish mortality following the first fall urban lake stockings last week, advised Arizona Game and Fish officials. Urban Fishing Program Manager Eric Swanson said the catfish arriving at the 14 participating urban lakes last week were apparently in stressed condition and many lakes experienced a high mortality rate. He explained that water conditions are the urban lakes were measured and found to be suitable for stocking. "It’s unfortunate that we had a fish kill for the first catfish stocking of the season. We apologize for the situation and possible disappointment this has caused our anglers. We still plan to do the regularly scheduled stocking the week of Sept. 20," Swanson said
