Various sport-fishing clinics across the state have been scheduled, including some associated with major community events, advised Arizona Game and Fish Department officials. At each clinic, Game and Fish will have sport-fishing instructors available to assist anglers and answer questions. The department will also have available for loan to the public, on a first-come, first-served basis, 100 rods and reels and a limited supply of bait. The following clinics are being offered: Prescott – Sept. 11, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. "Know Your Resources," an overnight camping adventure designed to acquaint people with Arizona’s outdoor recreation opportunities. The fee is $25 per adult and $10 for children 12 years and younger. Contact the Prescott Parks Department at (520) 445-5291; Prescott Valley – Sept. 18, 7 a.m. to noon. Celebrate "Gold Fever Days" with historical exhibits and costumes. Rainbow trout will be stocked into Fain Lake. For more information, contact the Prescott Historical Society at (520) 759-3045; Cottonwood – Sept. 25, 8 a.m. to noon, Deadhorse Horse Ranch State Park to celebrate Verde River Days. Catfish will be stocked into the park lagoon. Tucson – Sept. 26, 1-5 p.m., Silverbell Lake, call (520) 884-9394 to pre-register; Chandler – Oct. 2 from 8 a.m. to noon, Desert Breeze Park between Rural and McClintock. Call the Chandler Parks and Recreation Department at (480) 786-2323; Gilbert - Oct. 9, with the fishing clinic from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the dedication of the state’s newest urban lake at Water Ranch Park on the corner of Guadalupe and Greenfield roads starting at 10 a.m. The five-acre lake has been stocked with largemouth bass, sunfish and catfish. In addition to fishing, there will be many other resource agencies represented along with lots of family activities. For more information, call (602) 789-3240; Lake Havasu City - 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9 at Bridgewater Links Golf Course. This is one of the largest youth fishing events in the nation. Participants can fish either morning or afternoon sessions. Register on Sept. 29-30 and Oct. 1 at Lake Havasu Community Aquatic Center Parks and Recreation office at (520) 453-8686; Phoenix – Oct. 9 from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Encanto Park Lagoon. Bring the family and celebrate the 2nd annual "Mayor’s October Fish" program with Mayor Skip Rimza. An extra stocking of channel catfish will increase your chances of catching a 1.5 to 2 pound catfish. The Phoenix Police and Fire Department will have displays of their latest equipment.
