PIERRE – The Department of Game, Fish and Parks will host two open discussions next month, regarding the current state of South Dakota’s Missouri River fishery. Wildlife Division Director Doug Hansen said the meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Wrangler Inn in Mobridge, and at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Ramkota River Centre in Pierre. The public is invited to attend each of the two sessions. "These open discussions will include presentations by Missouri River fisheries biologists," Hansen said. "The presentations will focus on fish populations, fishing pressure and harvest projections for 1999. It is basically a summary of the Missouri River fishery. Following each presentation, we will open the floor to discussion and attendees will have an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas with department staff." Hansen said the Mobridge meeting will focus mainly on Lake Oahe and some northeastern South Dakota lakes. The Pierre meeting will focus mainly on Lake Oahe, Lake Sharpe and Lake Francis Case. The Pierre meeting is being hosted by the Great Lakes of South Dakota Association. "This is a great opportunity for sportsmen to learn detailed information on the Missouri River fishery and visit with department staff," Hansen said. "We will provide the most current and most accurate information that is available regarding fishing and fishing pressure. I really hope people will take advantage of this opportunity."
