PIERRE – State Game, Fish and Parks officials say a 74-year-old Florida man and his 33-year-old son were recently convicted of having 185 fish over their legal limit. Wildlife Division Director Doug Hansen said an anonymous tip led to the arrest of Fred B. Anderson and Scott B. Anderson, both of Bradenton, Fla. The men were fishing for trout in the Black Hills when they were checked by Conservation Officer John Wrede of Rapid City. After visiting with the men and conducting an investigation which spanned several days, a search of their Black Hills home was conducted. Officers conducting the search found 205 trout, two yellow perch and one rock bass. Each man was convicted of exceeding the legal limit of fish and each man was fined $1,500. Fred Anderson was also convicted of fishing without a license, and one charge of fishing with a fraudulent license was dismissed. In addition to the fines, the elder Anderson will lose his fishing privileges for three years and the younger Anderson will lose his fishing privileges for two years. Civil damages in the case could exceed $18,500. "Anglers who take more than their legal limits are stealing from other sportsmen, who will not have the opportunity to catch those fish," Hansen said. "We are very thankful to those individuals who recognize violations and bring them to our attention."
