Donald K. Anderson of Meyersdale, Somerset County, was elected president of the Fish and Boat Commission at the July 18, 1999 meeting in New Cumberland. Anderson joined the Commission in 1995. An active sportsman and volunteer in conservation efforts, Anderson has served as a deputy waterways conservation officer since 1978, and he has been an active member and nursery manager for the Salisbury-Elklick Hunting Club^s Cooperative Trout Nursery since 1976. Anderson has also served as a charter member and past president of the Casselman River Watershed Association, and he is active in the Somerset County Sportsmens League. In addition to his many activities as a Commissioner and member of sportsmen and conservation groups, Anderson, 45, is employed by the Bedford-Somerset Mental Health and Mental Retardation Program^s Somerset County Workshop. Anderson succeeds Commissioner Enoch S. "Inky" Moore as president of the Commission. At the meeting, Executive Director Peter A. Colangelo presented Moore with a plaque recognizing his outstanding leadership and dedication while serving as president of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission from July 19, 1998 to July 18, 1999. Commissioner Moore, from Newville, Cumberland County, is widely recognized as one of the outstanding conservationists of Pennsylvania. He^s been active for many years in organizations such as the Carlisle Fish and Game Association, Trout Unlimited, Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmens Clubs, the Cumberland County Junior Conservation School and many other such organizations. Since his retirement from a long and distinguished career in transportation, Inky has devoted much of his time and efforts to conservation activities. He joined the Fish and Boat Commission in 1995 and was reappointed as Commissioner in 1998. Commissioner Ted R. Keir, of Athens, Bradford County, was elected as vice-president of the Commission. Commissioner Keir joined the Commission in 1997. Prior to his retirement, Keir taught in the Athens Area School District in the fields of Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology and Earth Science. He has been an outdoor writer from many years, covering the waterways of Bradford and Susquehanna Counties. An activist in sportsmen and conservation organizations, Commissioner Keir has served as a director and vice-chairman of the Bradford County Conservation District and as a member of many conservation and sportsmen^s organizations, including Trout Unlimted, BASS, the Pennsylvania Outdoor Writers Association and many others. Commissioner Keir makes numerous presentations about the outdoors, fishing and conservation to civic organizations and other groups. He is the recipient of many awards and has been recognized as the Environmental Education Teacher of the Year. Under the Fish and Boat Code, the Commission elects one of its members as president and one as vice-president at the July meeting each year. The officers hold office for one year; the president is responsible for presiding over the Commission^s quarterly meetings.
