The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced today that the Neck Lake outlet stream, downstream from the highway bridge, will be open to the use of bait at 12:01 A.M. on Wednesday, July 28, through September 14, 1999. The Alaska Board of Fisheries has authorized the department to use its emergency order authority to liberalize methods and means of harvest if there is a surplus of hatchery-produced fish available in terminal harvest areas. Hatchery-produced coho salmon returning to Neck Lake outlet stream are not needed for broodstock. In order to increase anglers utilization of these surplus fish the department has opened bait fishing downstream of the highway bridge. Anglers are reminded that upstream of the bridge is closed to fishing, and that snagging is only open in the waters from the department stream mouth marker seaward. For additional information, anglers should call the Division of Sport Fish office in Klawock at (907) 755-8802.
