BATH COUNTY, Va.--Effective immediately, trout stocking at Douthat Lake in Douthat State Park will be temporarily discontinued. Purchase of a daily fee fishing permit to fish in park waters will not be required until trout stocking resumes in the fall. Anglers are reminded, however, that the appropriate state fishing licenses are still required when fishing Douthat Lake or Wilson Creek. Summertime water temperatures and low dissolved oxygen levels often cause unfavorable conditions for trout survival in some Virginia lakes. Historically, this has been the case at Douthat Lake on nearly an annual basis. Trout stocking will resume at Douthat State Park as water conditions become more agreeable for trout. Anglers may still fish for the numerous warmwater species present, including sunfish, largemouth bass, and chain pickerel.
