Montana^s Future Fisheries Review Panel will meet Thursday, July 29, beginning at 9 a.m. in the third floor conference room of the Historical Society Building in Helena. At the meeting, panel members will discuss 41 project applications, requesting approximately $715,000 in program funding, that were received prior to the panel^s latest application deadline on July 1. The panel was appointed to review lake and stream restoration project proposals and to determine those projects eligible for funding under the Future Fisheries Improvement Program, created by the 1995 Legislature. The panel will also recommend funding for projects that specifically enhance habitat for bull trout and cutthroat trout (a program created by the 1999 Legislature). These programs were established to provide for the protection and enhancement of Montana fisheries through voluntary restoration of habitats for populations of wild fish with an emphasis on native species. Projects to enhance fisheries in lakes and reservoirs as well as in streams and rivers are eligible. Detailed files on each recommended project are available from Fish, Wildlife & Parks^ Fisheries Division in Helena (phone: 444-2449). The public is welcome to attend.
