Description: I found this young Collared Dove on my way to work, and although he was uninjured he was so tired, cold and wet because of the severe storms that we've been having, and he let me pick him up and take him into the classroom with me, where he found the warmth and shelter he needed, and quickly recovered. For a wild bird he was very tame, and even though he could fly he preferred to perch on my hand and be carried around, which got in the way of what I was supposed to be doing, but I didn't complain. But he was supposed to stay a wild bird and I wasn't going to take him home, as much as I wanted to! I left him tucked up and cosy in a tree very close to where I found him, and where other Collared Doves hang out. I just hope he isn't so trusting when he sees a cat, or a Sparrowhawk fly over, as he was with me! Uploaded: 10/30/2000 by Joe Reynolds
