Went to the range yesterday. Had a great day. Put 130 rounds through the Ruger Mark III. 20 rounds for the G17.

Now the fun. I used the Remington 597 for the first time. Great results. Total of 150 rounds no failures of any kind. I was using Blazer Bulk #10021. I did use my home made patch puller and cleaned  the barrel after each 25 rounds, two paces, for the first 100 rounds. The first patch was dirty the second just about clean. I have no complaints at this time. I shot standing and benchrest. I was  more accurate at benchrest. I noticed I shot high if my targets are higher than level line with the bench. I would say it is accurate out of the box. Standing at 25yds. I was about 3 inches high 12 O'clock but the groups were at most one inch. My problem is I can't see the shot placement at 25yds until I bring back the target after the 10 rounds. I moved the target to aprox. 10yds. so I could see my shots. Basically hitting 1/2" groups. Towards the end I ran out of targets. I used the lower quarter and tried  to hit the same spot as the first shot. I actually had about five hit aprox. the same spot.

When I was leaving a younger fella was setting up to zero a new scope for his 597. He had just  purchased a wooden stock ($50.00) on E-Bay which looked great, along with the scope. He had  previously installed the Volquartsen Remington 597 Target Hammer and Extractor with great results. He let me compare the triggers of both rifles and his was much nicer. Shorter pull and lighter.

I had an enjoyable day at the range.
