At one time I'd have agreed with you wholeheartedly. However, some of the new premium bullets have started to change the reality of what does and doesn't work. It's a little harder for me these days to be critical of the use of any given caliber/chambering. Now I believe that the bullet used and the hunter's ability to place his round precisely should also be factored in when considering suitability. | ||||||

For reference, the above message is a reply to a message where: There is no doubt many deer and hogs have been dispatched by rimfire rounds available by simply placing the bullet well. My issue is being a sportsman and making sure the animal is shot in a manner that it will be a clean kill. I will not say don't use small caliber ammo if it is legal like it is here in Missouri. It's just me! I for one will not use any 556/223 on big game. Even a 100 grain 243 is pushing it IMO. |
