I've killed (not "harvested") most of my deer in recent years while stalking or hunting from ground blinds with muzzle loading firearms with "primitive" iron sights ... mostly flintlock rifles ... often in the rain.  Some study and lots of practice is required to be able to do this.  But the mind-set today is to let technology overcome practiced skill or acquired knowledge. Gee-whiz!  A trophy might get away without extra firepower being applied.

I have no problem with the so-called "black rifles".  The name comes from those who call such firearms by "assault weapon" terms.  Some of the first "assault weapons" were the Brown Bess muskets and Committey of Safety muskets used in the American revolution ... but they were the "assault weapons "of their day  although are considered very "primitive" firearms.

Just look at "All Terrain Vehicles" ... From the origional  Honda Big Red three-wheeler American "outdoorsmen"  have re-invented the Jeep.
